May I say... some "slight detail" has been left out of this article, just like it remains left out of nearly all statements and announcements concerning fusion.
When one assesses the whole fusion system, from mine to grave, the energy return on the energy investment (EROI) is actually below 0.1:1, that is, wholly unviable… As shown, for example, by Sabine Hossenfelder, 2021, Backreaction: How close is nuclear fusion power? http://backreaction.blogspot.com/2021/10/how-close-is-nuclear-fusion-power.html
Fusion research is great (very expensive) fun for a small range of physicists and engineers. It cannot address the energy requirements of our time.
