A “slight” problem here. From discussions with the scientists and engineers at ITER, I understand that the maximum energy return on the energy investment (EROI) one can expect from such fusion projects is 10:1. In practice it would mean something like 8:1 for an industrial operation. Now, civilised life as the 10% wealthiest on the planet experience it requires EROIs of 30:1 and above (while the 90% Remainder are forced to live on the dregs…). So please “mind the gap”. For now and for a very long foreseeable future, fusion is a non starter costing a huge amount of most probably wasted funds. An EROI of 10:1 roughly corresponds to the lifestyle of peasants in North Korea…
